Bacteria
In Mouth Linked To Other Diseases In Body
After a review of numerous studies, the Research, Science and
Therapy Committee of The American Academy of Periodontology found
periodontal disease and gingivitis as potential contributing factors for
cardiovascular diseases (atherosclerosis, coronary thrombosis, ischemic
heart disease, stroke), infective endocarditis
(damaged heart valves), diabetes, respiratory disease, low birth weight
infants, and behavioral and psychosocial status. Patients with
periodontal disease have a 1.5 – 2.0 times greater risk of incurring a
fatal cardiovascular disease. Women with periodontal disease are 7 times
more likely to have a baby of low birth weight or one that is premature.
Periodontal disease (around the tooth and below the gum) and tooth
decay are the most prevalent diseases on the planet earth. So, as bad as
that is for the mouth, it can be worse for the rest of the body.
Bacteria in the mouth causes the periodontal disease. To control
the bacteria and plaque, the American Dental Association (ADA) recommends
brushing teeth twice a day and flossing once a day. Yet, according to an ADA survey, only 5%
of adults floss daily. In addition, The Journal of Clinical
Periodontology reported that within those 5% of people who do floss, only
18 – 35% of the plaque between their teeth is removed.
A new technology has just been introduced to assist
in the prevention of periodontal disease. It actually replaces both tooth
brushing and flossing. The brushless electrical appliance is called
Dental Air Force because it uses a precision jet of air, water and dental
cleaner to power wash teeth, between teeth and along the gum line.
Hydrogen peroxide can also be used in the system to get the added benefit
of whitening teeth. It is especially effective on crowns, bridges,
implants and orthodontic appliances.
The new technology was developed by a practicing
dentist, underwent clinical studies, tested by independent dentists and
laboratories, and approved for marketing by the FDA.
Traditional toothbrushing
causes toothbrush abrasion along the gum line and sensitivity to hot and
cold. Dental Air Force does not cause ridges or destroy enamel. Some
ingredients in tooth paste cause cheek, gum and tongue irritation. The
Dental Air Force cleaner is pure odor-eating baking soda with natural
mint flavoring.
