  • Isn't the appliance expensive?
The device is a durable good (unlike a powered toothbrush). It works with air, water and cleaner. There actually is a small air compressor in the unit (weighing 20 pounds) - one of the reasons for the cost (and its effectiveness!). This appliance has undergone years of testing and has been through the strenuous process for approval to market by the FDA.

The cost of a professional bleaching is about $500. Since the appliance will yield the same results as a professional bleaching over about a one-month period of time, and can be used repeatedly for that, it is actually more cost effective for that purpose. The dental air force® system costs about the SAME AS a color tv, mountain bike, 1 wk of summer camp, lawn mower, dishwasher, fitness equipment, gas grill. It costs LESS THAN a digital camera, video camera, computer, stereo system, patio furniture. We spend hundreds of dollars on computers, DVDs, game boys, cameras, cosmetics and other life style improvements.

As a preventative measure, dental air force® saves thousands in dental work and protects the thousands that are spent on braces, crowns and bridges. It's what we call dental insurance.

  • Isn't the dental cleaner expensive?
Our dental cleaner was designed for convenience in single dose cups to last approximately 2 minutes of cleaning (ADA recommended teeth cleaning time). Using dental air force® for 1 day costs less than 2 stamps, for 2 days costs less than a roll of breath mints, 5 days costs less than a 1 latte, 1 week costs less than 1 fashion magazine or a box of cereal, 1 month costs less than 2 movie tickets or 1 medium pizza delivered or 1 month of newspapers, 6 months costs less than a pair of athletic shoes, 1 year costs less than 1 year of internet or ½ year at a health club. Cell phone service costs an average of $55/month or $660. It becomes a matter of priorities. We feel it's the best dental insurance one can have - prevention.

  • Why is the unit so big ?
At first the size seems to be an issue. (It is about the size of a toaster and weighs 20 pounds and is silent.) We have made the unit with a quick disconnect hand piece, so that an extra long hose can be easily attached. Besides placing it on your counter, other options include: 1) Some people put it under their counter if they have an electrical outlet in that location, leave it there, and only pull the hand piece out. 2) Others put it on the floor next to an outlet and use the hand piece in the shower. 3) We have one customer that had a carpenter come in and drill a hole through her counter so she could put it under her sink and always has the hand piece on the counter. 4) Another customer put the unit in her basement and drilled a hole through the floor for the hand piece hose, similar to running a telephone line.

Remember when we first were introduced to the computer? "Where am I going to put THAT thing? I'm not putting THAT in my dining room!....." We put hot curlers, water irrigators, hair dryers and facial steamers on our bathroom counters. We put blenders, mixers, toasters, bread machines, and juicers on our kitchen counters. The unit has a compressor, which is the reason for the size (and it's effectiveness!). We feel the health benefits out weigh the size.

  • Can the system be used in other countries?
At this time the appliance is only sold in the US for US use. The compressors that are in these units are 110 V, 50 Htz, and every country has a different voltage and a different Htz specification for their country's power grid. Though a step down transformer can change the voltage, it may not be able to change and balance the Htz.

  • Is the unit available in Canada, which has the same electrical requirements as the US?
In the past when we were on the radio in Canada we found that when shipping, the exchange rate, customs, duty, and taxes were all said and done, the consumer was paying about $800 for the unit. If you have a friend or relative in the US, we suggest that they purchase it.

  • If I want to whiten my teeth like professional bleaching, what do I do?
You would substitute hydrogen peroxide for water when wetting the cleaner. The dental air force® system comes with a water bottle to easily dispense water or other liquid (e.g.: hydrogen peroxide) to fill the cleaner cup.
You may experience some sensitivity or tissue irritation when first using hydrogen peroxide. This will usually subside with use and once you find your optimum dilution rate. Everyone's tolerance is different.

To find out your tolerance start by using 1 part hydrogen peroxide and 2 parts water in the water bottle. After about 1 week increase the solution to 2 parts hydrogen peroxide and 1 part water. Gradually work yourself up to pure hydrogen peroxide.

If excessive sensitivity or irritation persists, discontinue the hydrogen peroxide and use only pure drinking water or go back to a more dilute mix of hydrogen peroxide and water. Hydrogen peroxide acts as a bleaching and disinfecting agent. The whitening effect accumulates over time and is the preferred method of bleaching teeth. The additional benefit is the continuous and routine disinfection and oxidation between teeth and tissue.

You should not use hydrogen peroxide for longer than 1 month at a time. Resume the use of plain water for at least a week after each month using hydrogen peroxide.

  • Can I use hydrogen peroxide all the time instead of water?
We recommend that the hydrogen peroxide not be used for longer than one month and be alternated with pure water for a week. This is due its disinfecting power - killing bacteria. The mouth also has "good" bacteria, and the hydrogen peroxide used continually would kill those off too.

  • Could use other liquids such as mouth wash, myrrh oil or grapefruit seed extract to wet the cleaner?
Yes, you can add other liquids besides water to the cup to wet the cleaner. Many people use the appliance as a drug or supplement delivery system. The water bottle that is included in your dental air force® system can be used to store and easily dispense mixtures into the cleaner cup. The push/pull top makes it convenient to wet the cleaner at each use. It can also be used to mix, store and dispense various strengths of mouthwash, hydrogen peroxide, nutritional supplements, or antimicrobials. If using a tablet or capsule nutritional supplement, you may completely dissolve the powder in the water bottle. Usually this will not clog the individual user tip. Be sure to shake bottle every time before pouring if using a supplement.

Some suggested supplements and their functions that can be added to the water bottle are:

Since the cleaner is free of sodium laurel sulfate, (found in most tooth paste and known to irritate tissue), professionally prescribed antimicrobials used to treat periodontal disease, (like chlorhexadine gluconate) can be used without interfering or countering the effects of these chemicals or supplements.

Our cleaner does not contain fluoride. Many households use bottled or filtered water that has reduced the amount of fluoride one is exposed to, compared to ten years ago. If needed, ask your dentist for fluoride that can then be added to the water bottle and used while cleaning your teeth.

  • How many pounds of pressure does the unit produce?
Being a pneumatic appliance, some people ask: "What is the psi?" or "How many pounds of pressure?" Although psi is a factor in the equipment's design and performance, it is truly an irrelevant question that will not provide a reader or user with valid information. There are many factors that contribute to the efficacy or performance of the system - orifice size providing air flow, volume of air, lubricity of water, abrasivity of the dental cleaner, the mass of the substrates, the hydrophobic or hydrophilic nature of the dental cleaner, particle size, particle shape, distance from surface being struck, shape of the spray emitting from orifice (fanned or focused), as well as other factors.

The compressed air is generated by a high tolerance piston compressor. The dental device uses a high and low pressure system. The low pressure system enters the cleaner cup and propels the cleaner slurry out of the cup into the tip. The slurry then joins the high pressure system at the point of the tip. The high pressure system of air propels the slurry out of the tip in a conical shape pattern at a 90 degree angle towards the tooth.

  • Will the machine work using plain water and no cleaner?
The machine will mechanically work, if that is what you are asking. However, it won't remove any plaque. Plaque is greasy, it needs an abrasive to cut through it (picture trying to clean a greasy pan under your faucet). The cleaner also provides a neutralizing agent for the acidic plaque.

You can special order the cleaner with sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) only. It does have trace elements of tricalcium phosphate. We don't put that in ourselves. It is an ingredient found in all milled baking soda from the processing plant to ensure the flow in equipment. It is the same chemical element that our teeth are made of.

There would be no reason to purchase the unit if you were not going to use the cleaner.

  • Your company is called air force inc, do people confuse you with Air Force One?
That’s an interesting question. We have had a few people think we are connected to the US Air Force. The reason we used the words “air force” is because that is the power that propels the cleaner and oxygenates the teeth and gums. “Air force” is the single most differentiating attribute in dental air force® compared to all other products on the market, and what makes the system so effective.
